Video Transcript for Let’s Check Out the Pintle Hitch Ball with 2-5/16" Diameter, 14,000 lb GTW

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 63052. This is the Tow Ready Pintle Hitch Ball with the two and five sixteenth inch diameter. It's going to have a capacity of fourteen thousand pounds. If we take a measurement of the shank diameter real quick that's going to give us a measurement of one and one eighth of an inch. The shank length, measuring form the bottom of the shoulder to the end of the thread-in portions, we're going to measure two and one quarter of an inch. If we measure from the bottom of the shoulder to the top of the hitch ball, that's going to give us a measurement of about two and three quarters of an inch. Now a pintle hitch ball cannot be used on a standard ball mount.

The main difference between a pintle hitch ball and a standard hitch ball is the shank diameter. Pintle hitch balls are typically going to have a larger shank diameter than standard hitch balls. It is not safe to modify a ball mount to accept the larger diameter shank of a pintle ball. See here that it has the wrench flats on the side, that way you can easily get it tightened down. With this part number you're going to get the actual pintle hitch ball and you're going to get the lock-nut. It just goes on the thread-in portion there and then you can tighten it down to specifications.

That's going to do it for today's review of part number 63052. This is the Tow Ready Pintle Hitch Ball with the two and five sixteenth inch diameter.

  • How Much Torque Needs To Be Applied to the Pintle Hitch Ball with 2-5/16" Diameter
The Pintle Hitch Ball with 2-5/16" Diameter part # 63052 has a 1-1/8" diameter shank so the nut will need to be torqued to around 350 ft lbs.

  • What Size Is The Nut Included With 2-5/16" Pintle Hitch Ball 63052?
Thanks for your business! I reached out to my contact at Tow-Ready and the 2-5/16" Pintle Hitch Ball # 63052 you purchased does indeed use a 1-5/8" nut, so you are correct that you will need a 1-5/8" socket. I included a video of the # 63052 for you to take a look at.

  • Fitment of 2-5/16 Inch Coupler on a 2 Inch Pintle Hitch
It is not recommended to use a larger coupler on a smaller ball size even if it latches. The coupler can come ajar because it will not be snug enough to the ball to overcome the force created when impacting road bumps. I would suggest getting a pintle hook combo with a 2-5/16 inch ball like # C48200 or replacing the ball on your current setup. You would just want to replace it with a 2-5/16 inch ball that has the proper hole diameter, which is 1-1/8 inches # 63052 on the pintle # TR63011...

  • Can a Pintle Hitch Ball be Used on Standard Ball Mount
Pintle hitch balls such as the Tow Ready # 63052 have a ball size that matches the standard type of hitch ball but the size of the shank is larger on a pintle. Standard balls typically use a shank with a diameter of 3/4-inches or 1-inch while a pintle ball shank is 1-1/8 inches in diameter. It is not safe to modify a ball mount to accept the larger diameter shank of a pintle ball. For reference I have linked you to our main page for hitch balls of all types.

  • Recommended 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball for Tow Ready Pintle Hitch
The Tow Ready 2-5/16 Inch Pintle Hitch Ball # 63052 referenced in your question features the same 1-1/8 inch shank diameter as your existing Pintle Hitch Ball # TR63051, so it will work great as a replacement. This hitch ball also has a shank length of 2-1/4 inches and a weight capacity of 14,000 pounds. I have attached a short video demonstration on this product that you can also check out.

  • 2-5/16 Inch Ball for a Curt Pintle Hitch
The ball part of hitch ball # 19286 is a little more than 3 inches tall so it would not work for you. You need ball # 63052. Provided the shank diameter you need is 1-1/8 inches, it does have the 2-3/4 inch height for the ball portion. Or for a 1-1/4 inch diameter shank use ball # 63019.
